T-1B2-TE-3 - Shift to hydrogen freight rail transportation
TBD
Background¶
IPCC WG3 definition: .
Hydrogen vehicles have zero tailpipe emissions. They are also significantly more energy efficient and quiet than fossil-fueled vehicles. The shift to hydrogen freight rail reduces greenhouse gas emissions given that the production of the hydrogen is from a low emission source.
Sustainability Category: Green¶
This transition element substantially contributes to climate change mitigation through significant greenhouse gas reductions, carbon sequestration, or enabling the transition to net-zero emissions. The transition element aligns with science-based pathways to limit global warming and should be prioritized for investment and expansion.
