T-1A2-TE-2 - Shift to travel by electric rail
Background¶
IPCC WG3 definition: M-1A-12 - Electric Technologies.
Electric vehicles have zero tailpipe emissions. They are also significantly more energy efficient and quiet than fossil-fueled vehicles. The shift to electric passenger rail reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
Sustainability Category: Green¶
This transition element substantially contributes to climate change mitigation through significant greenhouse gas reductions, carbon sequestration, or enabling the transition to net-zero emissions. The transition element aligns with science-based pathways to limit global warming and should be prioritized for investment and expansion.
