T-1A1a-TE-12 - Shift to travel by electric bus

Background

IPCC WG3 definition: M-1A-3 - Public Transit.

Public transport can move large numbers of people efficiently, causing lower emissions, reduced noise levels, less congestion and an improved urban environment.

Public transport generates significantly less emissions per passenger than cars. The fuel source used in public transport (such as electricity, biofuels or diesel) has a certain effect on how impactful this shift is - but even fossil-fuelled buses emit significant less greenhouse gases per passenger than cars.

Shifting from cars to public transport will therefore be an essential part of the long-term transition to a sustainable transport system.

Public transport also has the capacity to transport large numbers of people efficiently, leading to a lower level of congestion, reduced noise levels and an improved urban environment.
